DHAKA - A joint police and army operation has been launched in Bangladesh after about 150 garment factories were forced to close their gates amidst violent scenes involving protestors demanding jobs.

The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) said it was concerned about the protests, focused on the industrial zones of Savar, Ashulia and Gazipur, but predicted calm would soon return.
