HÜRTH – A new flagship production facility that makes plant-based building blocks for polyester, polyamides, and a wide range of chemicals such as plasticisers has been completed in The Netherlands.
Part of the European Horizons 2020 project, the new 5,000 tonne capacity facility – billed as a ‘world’s first’ – will bulk produce polymers for the production of polyethylenefuranoate (PEF), which is a 100% plant-based polyester derived from woody biomass and agricultural waste that can be used in bottles, flexible films, and textile fibres.
