LONDON - Animal welfare organisation Four Paws is calling for a European Union (EU) ban on fur farming after new photographs highlighted what it described as “deeply disturbing and distressing” conditions on farms in Finland.
The photographs, taken by Finnish animal protection NGO Oikeutta Eläimille, reveal inadequate biosecurity measures and conditions on Finnish fur farms where animals were being culled over a bird flu outbreak, according to campaigners.
In the images, fur farm employees can be seen wearing open protective clothing without masks while working near the animal enclosures. The photos also show dead and cannibalised animals in small, desolate cages.
