NEW YORK – A global coalition of 192 institutional investors representing US$1.3 trillion in assets is calling on apparel companies sourcing from Bangladesh and Pakistan to sign up to legally binding commitments on worker safety.
The Interfaith Center on Corporate Responsibility (ICCR) is urging brands to join the International Accord for Health and Safety in the Textile and Garment Industry and the Pakistan Accord.
The ICCR was formed following the Rana Plaza disaster in 2013, in which 1,134 workers lost their lives and 2,500 more were injured, and made the call ahead of the 10th anniversary of the tragedy on Monday 24th April.
