HAMBURG – The Cotton made in Africa (CmiA) programme run by the Aid by Trade Foundation has now been officially recognised by the German Green Button standard as a ‘sustainable natural fibre,’ and has also been confirmed as an accredited source of raw materials by Cradle to Cradle Certified.
Speaking to Ecotextile News, managing director of Aid by Trade, Tina Stridde, said this move was important because it’s likely to further boost CmiA uptake volumes through demand from both existing and new programme partners as well as apparel brands and retailers.
“Increased demand will of course have a positive effect for CmiA farmers as more funds can be transferred to the project areas,” she told us.
