GENEVA - The Better Cotton initiative is consulting with its members on its new €25 million (US$28m) chain of custody system which would offer full physical traceability of its cotton.
Consultation documents posted on the Better Cotton website reveal the proposed new system would offer four different options - controlled blending, segregation (multi-country) and segregation (single country), as well as mass balance.
The current mass balance system was designed to overcome difficulties in separation during the ginning process and has helped Better Cotton become the world's largest sustainable cotton initiative.
