COLOMBO – Four leading initiatives have come together to sign a joint call to action urging companies sourcing from Sri Lanka to support garment workers and factory owners during the country's current crisis.
The British Retail Consortium (BRC), Ethical Trading Initiative (ETI), Fair Wear and the Fair Labor Association (FLA) are calling for greater support for Sri Lanka which is facing its worst economic crisis in more than 70 years.
They say the apparel industry accounts for more than half of Sri Lanka’s total exports, directly employs approximately 350,000 people and supports the livelihoods of another million through indirect employment.
