NEW YORK – Traceability solutions provider Sourcemap has launched a new platform to help US companies meet the requirements of the new Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act (UFLPA) which comes into effect on 21st June.
The legislation bans all imports into the US from the Xinjiang region of China - which supplies a fifth of the world's cotton - unless importers can prove they were not made with forced labour.
Sourcemap says it means that companies will be vulnerable to US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) enforcement - facing risk of detentions, exclusions, seizures and civil or criminal liability - if forced labour is found in any tier of their supply chains.
