OSLO – The Higg Index Sustainability Profile, which aims to help consumers choose garments based on their environmental impact, could be outlawed in Norway after the country's consumer watchdog raised 'greenwashing' concerns.
The Norwegian Consumer Authority is currently considering whether or not the use of the consumer-facing label for individual products is in breach of Norway's Marketing Act.
Such a decision would be seen as a blow to the ambitions of the Sustainable Apparel Coalition (SAC), which owns the Higg Index suite of tools, and the Higg Co, its technology partner.
