LONDON – Online marketplace eBay has introduced an authenticity guarantee on luxury handbags sold for over £500 (US$628) in the UK.
Applicable to items from high-end brands including Louis Vuitton, Gucci and Prada, the service is designed to establish greater customer protection surrounding expensive purchases and mitigate counterfeiting.
Kirsty Keoghan, director of luxury goods at eBay UK, said in a statement: “With the introduction of authenticity guarantee, it gives our customers total confidence that they’re getting an authentic product from their favourite designers and helps to remove any doubts. This is a game changer for the resale luxury market.”
