SOUTHAMPTON — Southampton Clothes Swap, a community project funded by Southampton City Council and established to run monthly events promoting sustainable fashion consumption, is set to hold Sustainable Fashion Fest 2019 at the John Hansard Gallery.
The initiative demonstrates in practice the idea of rising public interest in second hand clothing and more sustainable purchasing — which is so often purely based on anecdotal evidence.
Released earlier this year, the Thred Up 2019 Resale Report claimed that by 2028 the second-hand clothing market could be worth US$20 billion more per annum than ‘fast fashion’ — a prediction that will only be realised if consumers engage with and understand the environmental benefits of buying used apparel.
