STOCKHOLM - Swedish apparel and textile companies have confirmed that 95 per cent of their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions are produced in their global supply chains (Scope 3), in a new study by the Swedish Textile Initiative for Climate Action (STICA).
A total of 40 leading Swedish companies jointly mapped their Scope 3 emissions for the first time and found that - as expected - the vast majority of emissions were caused during the production phase.
STICA, which works to support the apparel industry to reduce emissions in line with the UN's Framework on Climate Change and the Paris Agreement, says co-operation is urgently needed at international level to halve global supply chain emissions each decade.
