SAN FRANCISCO – US apparel and accessories brand Vida has expanded its face mask recycling programme in a bid to reduce the vast quantities continually sent to landfill.
The company says it will accept any branded item except paper, cloth or homemade masks, and consumers keen to donate can capitalise on pre-paid shipping labels available on its website.
According to estimates from the United Nations, as many as 75 per cent of face masks go to landfill, while more than 1.5 billion have ended up in the ocean, in turn exacerbating pollution levels.
