UTRECHT - The Changing Markets Foundation is urging the European Union (EU) to charge fashion retailers a fee for every item they sell to deal with the sector's growing waste problem.
The environmental non-profit expects the European Commission to put an extended producer responsibility (EPR) scheme at the heart of its new Textiles Strategy which is due to be unveiled at the end of this month.
The Changing Markets Foundation commissioned environment consultants Eunomia, an advisor to the commission, to produce a report on how best to implement EPR to tackle fashion's waste problem.
