BRUSSELS - The European Commission has unveiled its highly-anticipated proposals to introduce a mandatory extended producer responsibility (EPR) scheme for textiles in all member states.
The EPR scheme would make producers responsible for the full lifecycle of textile products and support the sustainable management of textile waste across the European Union (EU), according to the commission.
Producers would pay fees to cover the costs of the management of textile waste, a system which the commission says will also give them incentives to reduce waste and increase the circularity of textile products.
