AMSTERDAM - The European Center for Constitutional and Human Rights (ECCHR) non-profit is accusing leading textile certification bodies of ignoring forced labour concerns in the Xinjiang region of China.
ECCHR claims the Global Organic Textile Standards (GOTS), Better Cotton and Cotton made in Africa (CmiA) have repeatedly approved cotton made in the region which meets a fifth of global demand.
All three bodies say they have already pulled out of Xinjiang where an estimated 1.8 million incarcerated Uyghur Muslims, and other ethnic minorities, are allegedly forced to work in the cotton and textiles industry.
