LONDON - Campaigners are taking legal action against UK authorities for failing to block the import of cotton products from the Xinjiang region of China over forced labour fears.
The World Uyghur Congress (WUC), with the support of the Global Legal Action Network (GLAN), has filed the "unprecedented" case - which is being paid for by crowdfunding - at the High Court of England and Wales.
The WUC argues that garments made with cotton from Xinjiang freely enter the UK despite well-documented evidence of the widespread use of forced labour by imprisoned Uyghur Muslims in the region.
