CALIFORNIA – More than 50 design professors from leading fashion schools have signed an open letter to California Governor Gavin Newsom, urging that he passes the Garment Worker Protection Act (SB62) and puts an end to wage theft.
Earlier this month, the bill passed by the state Assembly, clearing another crucial hurdle in the legislative process.
In a plea to Governor Newsom, the academics have stressed that “not a single student we teach aspires to work in an industry that does not provide minimum wage to its garment makers”.
