SAN FRANCISCO – Almost a year since launching its #PayUp campaign, workers’ rights NGO Remake has embarked on a ‘Week of Action’, focusing on educating consumers on the plights of garment workers and rallying more people around its cause.
It was the 30th March 2020 that Remake kick-started its campaign, demanding that fashion brands commit to paying those in their supply chain for orders they’d retracted upon the global outbreak of COVID-19.
Though it’s helped generate upwards of US$22 billion for workers by influencing brand U-turns, the likes of Boohoo, URBN, Bestseller and Walmart haven’t addressed the growing pressure, and reportedly sit on millions still owed to factory staff.
