CANBERRA – Oxfam has published a new report which assesses the efforts of fashion brands and retailers in Australia to ensure adequate labour rights standards are attained for their supply chain workers in Bangladesh.
The Shopping for a Bargain report has been compiled following extensive supply chain research, through which worker surveys and interviews with factory owners, supervisors and operators were conducted.
The findings demonstrate widely different approaches by these companies, which includes H&M, Inditex, Target Australia and Cotton On. Ultimately, however, action must be taken across the board to ensure garment workers aren’t pressured into unfair deals.
