ADELAIDE – In Australia, a new platform called NewMerino has been created to spotlight wool growers who’ve ceased mulesing.
The organisation has a growing membership of what it calls ‘New Generation Farmers’, those who demonstrate a “sustainable” and “holistic” approach to animal welfare and wool cultivation.
Speaking with native outlet Sheep Central, NewMerino’s founder Peter Vandeleur, said: “Growers who have ceased mulesing occupy a special position in the market as they are differentiated from 85 per cent of Australian farmers. In 10 years’ time, it is probably going to be the only one (wool type) that is acceptable.”
