PHNOM PENH - Nearly 30,000 garment workers face being put into quarantine for 14 days in Cambodia to limit the spread of COVID-19 after they returned to their home villages to celebrate Khmer New Year in defiance of the government.
Minister of Health Mam Bun Heng said the workers ignored a government order to postpone the holiday as well as an an inter-provincial travel ban to prevent the coronavirus spreading.
“To prevent Covid-19 transmissions among workers who return to their factories and enterprises, the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training must quarantine them for 14 days,” he said.
