SOUTH EAST ASIA - Garment workers across South East Asia are facing lay-offs as factories run out of raw materials which are normally supplied by China but which have been hit by the coronavirus epidemic.
In Cambodia, the government is warning that about 200 factories, most of them making clothing, will have to slow or cease production imminently due to a lack of raw materials.
The garment industry is the country’s biggest employer and labour ministry officials warn that as many as 90,000 workers could see their jobs suspended by the end of March if the crisis drags on, according to the Khmer Times.
