GENEVA - The Better Cotton Initiative (BCI) has revealed that its 150 retailer and brand members collectively sourced more than 1.5 million metric tons of 'better cotton' last year - a 40 per cent increase on 2018.
The volume of 'better cotton' - produced by licensed BCI farmers in line with the BCI principles - was enough to make 1.5 billion pairs of jeans and represented six per cent of global cotton production.
The BCI has also revealed that its suppliers and manufacturers actually produced more than two million metric tons of 'better cotton' ensuring there was more than enough available to meet retailers’ needs.
