DHAKA - The Nirapon safety monitoring organisation has lost its appeal against a court order temporarily banning it from representing the interests of North American brands which source from garment factories in Bangladesh.
The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court in the capital city of Dhaka upheld an earlier decision to impose a six month ban on Nirapon, the body set up to continue the work of the Alliance for Bangladesh Worker Safety.
Nirapon represents 23 North American brands which set up its predecessor body to oversee factory safety and training in 700 garment factories in Bangladesh following the 2013 Rana Plaza building collapse in which more than 1,100 workers were killed.
