DHAKA – The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers & Exporters Association (BGMEA) – the trade body of apparel manufacturers in Bangladesh – is set to establish an RMG (ready-made garment) Sustainability Council, with the aim of implementing a self-monitoring approach whereby the members are responsible for overseeing the sector.
The Council is hoping to continue the work of the Bangladesh Accord, which was established after the Rana Plaza disaster in 2013. A stakeholder seminar is set to be held today to finalise the details of the council’s formation.
