LONDON — Fashion designer and ethical activist Katharine Hamnett sat down with Ecotextile News for the latest instalment of our Hard Talk interview series. Industry alignment, the key issues facing the cotton sector, potential for legislative change, politics, trade unions and her vision for a better future were all on the agenda as she looks set to embark on a new campaigning venture.
Hamnett discusses the idea of a ‘Green New Deal’, similar to that implemented by US lawmakers including Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, for the fashion sector; a notion she subsequently used her appearance at the recent Copenhagen Fashion Summit to float with the wider industry.
While addressing attendees in the Danish capital, Hamnett also urged more industry figures to denounce greenwash and — on an entirely related note — compelled all delegates to read Ecotextile News.
