SEATTLE – Outdoor retailer Recreational Equipment, Inc. (REI) will continue to expand its rental and used gear offerings, in the wake of the cooperative posting record financial results for 2018, shortly after it first entered the expanding rentals market.
New rental options will be available in 115 stores across the US, and include snowshoes, skis, snowboards and camping and backpacking kits. Used gear and gear trade-in options both in-store and online will also be invested in, as the rental economy continues to grow.
REI’s consumer research indicates that 36 per cent of millennials say they would rather rent than own a product. REI interim president and CEO Eric Artz said that those under the age of 40 made up the majority of the over one million new members the retailer added last year.
