DHAKA - Increasing levels of automation in Bangladesh’s garment industry have led to 3% drop of female workers over the last 10 years, according to a new report.
The report, ‘Technology Upgradation of the RMG Industries in Bangladesh’, says that female participation fell from 56% to 53% between 2014 and 2023, attributing the decrease primarily to an increased investment in the latest textile technology, and the role of machine operators subsequently becoming obsolete.
