PRATTELN – Dutch fashion brand G-Star Raw has joined speciality chemical supplier Archroma and Chinese garment supplier Advance Denim in a joint commitment to the production of ‘aniline-free’ denim.
In other words, denim dyed with indigo where any residual aniline is below the current analytical limits of detection.
Aniline is a pre-cursor chemical for the indigo dyes essential for making traditional blue jeans. Nowadays however, it features heavily on many restricted substance lists (RSL’s) since it's a suspected carcinogen that can also cause skin allergies and is hazardous to aquatic life.
