WASHINGTON DC - US lawmakers have called upon the American Apparel & Footwear Association (AAFA) to use its influence to support the demands of Bangladesh’s garment workers for fairer wages and working conditions.
The letter follows several months of tense negotiations between unions, factory owners and the government, with the Bangladeshi authorities often resorting to a violent response to quell the mass protests and union action, which has resulted in deaths, injuries, and the arrests of many innocent workers.
