SYDNEY - Animal welfare campaigners in Australia says the country's wool industry is falling behind as other producer countries ramp up the production of 'preferred' wool certified to global standards.
Humane Society International Australia points to the recent Textile Exchange Materials Market Report which revealed the amount of wool certified to the Responsible Wool Standard (RWS), ZQ Merino, SustainaWOOL or Climate Beneficial had reached 74% in the Falkland Islands, 53% in South Africa, 35% in Uruguay, 21% in Argentina and 13% in New Zealand.
