SYDNEY - Politicians in New South Wales look set to once again debate a proposed ban on the controversial practice of mulesing lambs by the state's wool producers.

A petition to be tabled by Animal Justice Party MP Mark Pearson calls for a complete phase out of mulesing in NSW by 2030, and for pain relief to be mandatory immediately for mulesing, and also tail docking and castration.

The Sheep Central trade news website says the petition has already attracted more than 1,500 signatures - three times the threshold for it to be tabled in the NSW Legislative Council, the upper house of the state government.
