YANGON - More than 250 garment workers in Myanmar have occupied a factory in protest at the inadequate compensation said to be on offer following management's decision to close the facility down.
Reports in Myanmar Now suggest that the Chinese-owned Hongmiao garment factory in Yangon, which mainly produces clothing for the Japanese brand Fieldcore, notified its workers on September 26 that the factory would be shutting down operations within the month, just a year and a half after opening.
