WASHINGTON — The American Apparel & Footwear Association and Fair Labor Association have written to the Myanmar government calling for action on rights violations in the nation’s textile supply chain and for freedom of association and collective bargaining to be respected.
The organisations say their combined memberships — which include names such as Levi’s, Nike, Calvin Klein, Adidas and Ralph Lauren — are “deeply troubled” by recent policy changes and state actions which could “misalign, confuse, and even derail” some of the progress made in recent years to improve the nation’s prospects.
The letter was sent on behalf of all member brands even though some of them – such as Levi Strauss – do not source from the country.
