UNION – Biotechnology company MycoWorks has commenced production at the world’s first commercial scale fine mycelium plant to provide the fashion industry with its leather alternative material.
The 136,000 square feet facility will use it proprietary technology to produce millions of square feet of its Reishi branded material, which claims to offer the strength, durability and feel of animal leather with lower environmental impact, per year. The production process cultivates mycelium, a root-like structure grown by fungi to absorb nutrients, in a controlled environment.
