SAN FRANCISCO – New analysis from the Apparel Impact Institute (Aii) initiative has put a new figure on the size of the fashion industry's carbon footprint which claims to be the most accurate produced to date.
Climate change consultant Michael Sadowski estimated that the sector was responsible for 897 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) in 2021 — roughly 1.8% of global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
The figure is revealed in a new Aii report, Taking Stock of Progress Against the Roadmap to Net Zero, which updates 2021's The Roadmap to Net Zero report from Aii and the World Resources Institute (WRI).
