GENEVA - Better Cotton has released the first ever quantification of the carbon footprint of its methods which it says shows significantly lower greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from cotton produced by its licensed farmers.
The report, conducted for Better Cotton by the Anthesis Group, analysed more than 200,000 farm assessments from three seasons (2015-16 to 2017-18) and used the Cool Farm Alliance's 'Cool Farm Tool' to calculate GHG emissions.
It found that on average Better Cotton farmers produced 19 per cent fewer emissions per tonne of cotton lint than comparable farmers across China, India, Pakistan, Tajikistan and Turkey.
