PHNOM PENH - A Cambodian garment factory has reinstated eight sacked trade union officials following interventions from sportswear giant Nike and the IndustriALL global trade union.
The T-win Garment Cambodia Company facility, in Takeo province, sacked the workers in February after they refused bosses demands to resign from the Collective Union of Movement of Workers (CUMW).
After failed mediations, CUMW and IndustriALL asked Nike, a customer of T-Win Garment, to intervene. After two months of talks, T-Win Garment finally agreed to reinstate the dismissed leaders. Two other union members decided to leave with compensation.
