HAMBURG – German retailers Otto Group and Tchibo have announced their commitment to the new International Accord for Health and Safety in the Textile and Garment Industry in Pakistan.
The International Accord was first launched in Bangladesh in 2021 to hold brands accountable for workplace safety. With the support of more than 185 companies, organisers have now developed a similar framework in Pakistan.
Tobias Wollermann, the Otto Group’s vice president of corporate responsibility, wrote on LinkedIn: “When the Otto Group, together with many other international companies and global trade unions, agreed on a new agreement for occupational safety in the global textile and clothing industry in 2021, it was clear that other countries besides Bangladesh should also benefit from it. That is why I am delighted that we have signed the new Pakistan Accord today.”
