KARACHI - The International Accord for Health and Safety in the Textile and Garment Industry has announced plans to establish a new comprehensive workplace health and safety programme in Pakistan.
The International Accord was set up by global fashion companies and trade unions last year to hold brands accountable for workplace safety in Bangladesh, with the stated intention of later expanding to other garment manufacturing countries.
Earlier this year, it confirmed plans to make Pakistan its second country and it has now confirmed that this will be achieved next year following an agreement by its 187 signatory brands, workers' representatives, government officials and factory owners in Pakistan.
