KARACHI - Campaigners are marking the anniversary of a horrific garment factory fire in Pakistan by backing plans for a new workplace safety initiative for Bangladesh to be extended to other countries.
More than 250 workers were killed in the blaze at an Ali Enterprises factory in Karachi on 11th September 2012 - only three weeks after it had been certified as safe by a commercial social auditing firm.
Workers' rights campaigners and trade unions say the tragedy illustrates the importance of extending the International Accord for Health and Safety in the Garment and Textile Industry to Pakistan.
