TOKYO – Japanese fibre manufacturer Teijin Limited, trading company Itochu Corporation and engineering firm JGC Corporation have together launched RePEaT, a new joint venture that will look to advance the chemical recycling of waste polyester.
The three formalised a collaboration in April of last year which centred on Teijin’s extensive experience in dimethyl terephthalate (DMT) – a method of chemical recycling which decomposes and converts PET plastic before its core monomers are repolymerised to form new materials.
“In view of the strong global demand envisioned for their licensed technology, the partners have now decided to proceed with establishing a commercial joint venture,” an Itochu statement said.
