PARIS – Ahead of Black Friday, fashion resale specialist Vestiaire Collective has today announced a ban on all fast fashion items being bought, sold or listed on its platform.
The decision forms part of a three-year plan which will see it establish a set of ‘fast fashion criteria’ – encompassing product quality, associated carbon emissions and working conditions – that will be used to inform bans on environmentally and socially unsustainable companies.
Dounia Wone, Vestiaire’s chief impact officer, commented: “We’ve taken this step because we don’t want to be complicit in this industry which has a tremendous environmental and social impact. The current system encourages overproduction and overconsumption of low quality items and generates huge amounts of fashion waste.”
