GREEN ISLAND – Ecco Leather, a manufacturer of traditional animal leather, has forged a first-of-its-kind partnership with Ecovative – a mycelium innovator that produces vegan leather alternative materials.
Ecovative, which works with the likes of PVH Corp, Bestseller and Pangaia, says it has the “most complete mycelium library in the world” at its disposal and can tweak the material’s properties depending on its client’s requirements.
“Mycelium represents a brand-new canvas on which we can create with both traditional and novel material processes. It removes the complexities of the raw hide supply chain, while its fast and efficient growth allows us to bring a new material category to market, one that gives consumers an environmentally conscious choice over petrochemical-derived materials,” said Bart Hofman-Kronborg, Ecco Leather’s group manufacturing director.
