DHAKA – Workers’ rights non-profit IndustriALL has urged the government of Bangladesh to make “sincere efforts” to embark on a labour law reform in line with the demands of the International Labour Organization (ILO).
In 2019, the ILO requested that Bangladeshi authorities develop a time-bound roadmap of actions to address issues such as trade union registration, labour inspections, worker violence and unfair labour practices in response to complaints.
Upon the launch of the government’s latest progress report, IndustriALL has labelled progress as “sluggish” and, in some instances, “anti-worker”, with maternity benefits for workers reduced.
