OSLO / AMSTERDAM - Consumer watchdogs in Norway and the Netherlands have issued joint guidance to the textile industry on the use of Higg Materials Sustainability Index (Higg MSI) data on consumer-facing product labels.
The Norwegian Consumer Authority (NCA) and the Dutch Authority for Consumer and Markets (ACM) believe the way that global averages for environmental impact have been used to present information to consumers was misleading and potentially illegal.
They say the Sustainable Apparel Coalition (SAC), which owns the Higg Index suite of tools, should carry out an independent third party review of the Higg MSI data and methodology.
