The Sustainable Apparel Coalition (SAC) has published the results of its independent review of its Higg Materials Sustainability Index (Higg MSI) and Higg Product Module (Higg PM) tools.
The review, announced in June 2022 after consumer watchdogs in Norway declared the use of Higg MSI data on consumer-facing product labels illegal, was originally scheduled to be published in June 2023.
The key findings include that the Higg MSI, which assesses materials from cradle-to-gate, is not fit for purpose as a standalone tool and should be rolled in with the Higg PM which assesses the cradle-to-grave environmental impacts of products.
