DARTMOUTH – A state-of-the-art biodegradability laboratory has been established at the University of Massachusetts (UMass) Dartmouth in a bid to accelerate innovation in ocean-safe plastics and other materials which contaminate our environment.
The facility was made possible by a private-public partnership, including almost US$740,000 in funding from the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative grant and a US$450,000 investment from material science company Primaloft.
“The opening of the new biodegradability lab at UMass Dartmouth is another incredible example of Massachusetts leading the way towards a more sustainable future,” said the state’s Lieutenant Governor Karyn Polito. “The research conducted and the products developed within the lab will offer industry and academia opportunities for growth.”
