ISTANBUL - A new report on casual employment in the Turkish garment industry says that working without social security is “ordinary” for garment workers and retirement is "beyond their wildest dreams".
The study, from Clean Clothes Campaign Turkey (CCC Turkey), says that the Turkish government and global brands sourcing from the country have left the social security coverage of workers to small factories.
Although brands have 'codes of conduct' regarding the working conditions in these enterprises, rights such as social security and retirement have become a "distant dream" for casual workers, according to the report.
